The chalet
The chalet is about 100 metres from our home, nestled below a
patch of beech forest and with great views up the Baton valley and
across to the Kahurangi mountains. It is sometimes quite difficult
to sleep through the dawn chorus performed by the Bellbirds and
Tuis that live in the bush.
The chalet is fully self contained, with 2 bedrooms comfortably sleeping 2 couples or a family group. The large living room is linked to the kitchen and dining area. The couch converts into an extra double bed and single beds can be provided for children.
There is a large deck in front of the chalet for dining, just lazing
in the sun, reading, or taking in the stunning views. For winter stays the pot belly stove keeps the chalet warm and cozy.
Cooking facilities include an electric oven, a gas hob, a microwave,
a toaster and an electric jug, as well as a gas fired barbeque on
the deck. There is a fridge which has a small freezer compartment.
As the nearest store is 16 km away at Tapawera, it is necessary
to bring food if you want to do your own cooking. An evening meal can be provided in our home if required but please request when making your booking.
There is a small TV which picks up channels 1 and 3 and a washing
machine for the laundry. Linen is provided. A self cook breakfast
of cereals, bacon and eggs, and toast and jam, is provided for the
first morning of each stay.
Coffee, tea (and even home grown walnuts!) are provided. We also invite our guests to share our fresh seasonal organic vegetables and fruit from our gardens.
